Volvo Repair: HEAT SWITCH, system failure, hot weather

Question
Hi, my car is dying and on inspection I found my fan relay is becoming hot. Once it is cooled off the car starts and drive and once its hot is dies again, especially in hot weather. Is it possible that my heat switch can be a problem not indicating the fan that the engine is cooled off and it should stop giving power to the fan.

Since it drives in cool weather you think its safe to drive 800 km to the nearest volvo garage for testing and replacement? I think it needs also reset at dealer since it will continue cutting off the engine. Please i trust on your advise

Answer
Alec, do the cooling fans quit and die, or actually the car itself? There is no provision for cooling system failure to shut the vehicle down. If it's overheating because the fans are not running, you may be starting to sieze the engine. What does the temp. guage read when the car dies?
