Volvo Repair: Transmission, mint condition, s80

Question
I have a 2001 S80 T. It has about 160K miles. It is in mint condition. The transmission is slipping. It is worth fixing the transmission or should i move onto a newer vehicle. I love my Volvo. What can i expect to pay for a transmission. Should i buy a new, or rebuilt one.

thanks Harold

Answer
Harold, tough questions. When you buy any used car, you can be inheriting it's pending problem(s). If you fix what you own, you know what you have and have not renewed. Roll the dice?
New transmissions do not exist. Only rebuilts, even from the dealer. You are going to pay dearly for a rebuilt. $2500.00 for a good one, and that's on the floor. You will have to pay more to have it installed. These are very touchy units and I do NOT recommend sourcing one outside of Volvo itself.
