Volvo Repair: v40 auto transmision 2004, volvo experience, synthetic atf

Question
QUESTION: Dear Roger
I purchased a v40 last year, with 107000 miles, I have
always noticed that the change between 2nd and 3rd when I
drive about 10 to 25 miles at low rpms feels like a little
bump, the car works great, and at high rpms it is not
noticeable, is the transmission in future problems. I think
that in this transmisions I should let it work until it
dies. I am in el Salvador and there is not many people with
volvo experience around, most of the answers for my
problems is through the web.
Regards

ANSWER: Mario, they arent a very smooth shifting transmission.  I wouldnt worry about it until a real problem persists.  Roger

QUESTION: Dear Roger, thank you for your fast response and your knowledge.
I want to give it the best maintenance possible, how often do I need to change the oil? what is the specification of the oil, because I once changed it in another automatic transmission car and it got ruined because I used the one that the lube shop recommended. I have not found any filter reference so I think that it does not have any, but you know better, and finally, because of the mileage, I want to know if I need to change spark plugs or any other thing and how often, because in some information in volvocars.com I see that must only be changed about 77,000 miles, what is the specs of this spark plugs, because they last really long. I ask all this, because I feel that my v40 in the middle of nowhere in this country, you see a lot of toyotas and merceds, even porsche, but volvo.... I´ve seen very litte.
Regards
Mario

Answer
Mario, there is no specified service for the transmission on these but if you do change it, make sure its synthetic ATF.  There is no filter change on the transmission.  Engine oil and filter should be done every 3 thousand miles but no more than 5 thousand.  Spark plugs should be 30 thousand but the book will tell you how often.  Roger
