Volvo Repair: Smokes while decelrating, s70 glt, american junk

QUESTION: 98 S70 GLT 5 cylinder 140k mi. smokes when after a good acceleration take foot of gas. Doesn't happen all the time though?

ANSWER: Bob, with 140k on it you are lucky it doesnt smoke all the time.  Common issue with the 850's.  Only way to stop the smoking is to give the car nicorette.  HA.  Anyway, A complete valve job with new valves, etc is the only way to stop the problem.  Roger

QUESTION: As a some what mechanic I thought of that and and at 140k if you rebuild the top will that mostlikly cause blow by on the pistons then cause the top is tight? And 14k on a Volvo is supposed to be just broken in.

Bob, Blow-by is on american junk. 140K is still new for a Volvo but on the white engines, this is a common problem.  rebuild the head and you will have many more years to drive.  If you can live with a little smoke, I wouldnt bother with it until it really gets bad. Just keep your eye on the oil level.  Roger
