BMW: Drivers Door Side Mirror Removal, 10mm nuts, paint damage

Question
I am needing to remove and replace the side mirror left side, due to a deer running into my car and breaking the mirror off. My car is a 1988 E32 7 series, if the removal is similar to the E30 please advise, there is a plastic panel on the inside that has a speaker in it that I need to remove to access the fastners for the mirror but I don't know this plastic panel is held on.

Answer
Jim,
I have never removed one on an E32, but it sounds similar to an E30.  Late model E30's had tweeter speakers in the plastic panel covering the mirrors like you stated.  This panel just pops off, you will have to pry slightly, but it should not be hard to remove.  Dont force it, or the plastic tabs will break, and the panel wont fit tight when you replace it.
Behind this panel should be 3, 8-10mm nuts in a triangle pattern.  remove these nuts, and the mirror should come off.  There is a rubber seal that fits between the mirror and the door, to reduce vibration and paint damage.
You probably have electric mirrors as well, so pull the wire up until you find the connector.  Disconnect this and pull the mirror away from the car.
This is based on the E30, which "should" be similar to your 7-series.
 Take care, and Merry Christmas!
 Josh
