Volvo Repair: 1996 Volvo 960 EGR Valve replacement, 1996 volvo 960, flame trap

Question
My 1996 Volvo 960 failed emissions and the test identified the EGR valve. The car has 140k mile. I have removed the throttle body, and the intake manifold plenum. I was told the EGR valve was under the intake manifold but I do not see it. The only thing I haven't looked under is a black plastic cover near the front knock sensor. It has some hoses that will need removed to get the cover off and I didn't want to remove it unless I was sure the EGR was beneath.  I have removed enough items I can clearly see both knock sensors. Any help is appreciated.
thank you,
Red

Answer
Red, I actually have to do the exact one tommorrow.  To put it mildly, they suck to do.  It is under the intake towards the back of the motor.  You cant see it.   Dont take that box off.  That is the flame trap box.  its there but it is very hard to  get too.  Roger
