Volvo Repair: Electrical problems with 2001 Volvo S60 2.4T, fuel guage, gas gauge

Question
QUESTION: Recently, my car is having weird electrical issues.  First, my remote would not open the trunk, then it wouldn't open the back doors, so I thought it was an issue with the remote itself.  But, I noticed that I can't open the back doors at all - manually from the outside or the inside of the car.  Then, I noticed my gas gauge was not working (reads below empty), and last night, I couldn't open the gas lid to fill up.  I was able to release the lid manually from the inside trunk panel.  I presume all of these issues are related as they all happened at once.  But, I'd like any thoughts you have on the subject. Thanks.

ANSWER:   Gale, the fuel guage is a seperate issue. Put a new battery in your key fob and have it recoded. That should take care of your locking problems.
The fuel guage problem needs to be tested and diagnosed by a qualified technician. Probably the sender in the tank, but no way to know without testing first. HTH

QUESTION: Thanks, Mark.  It just seems weird that everything happened at once.  Any chance that a software upgrade could fix the fuel gauge sender issue?  In addition, I have had some minor hesitation when accelerating at slow speeds.  I had that acceleration/hesitation issue once before (years ago) and a software upgrade fixed that, but I haven't been taking my car to the dealer in years so haven't had any software updates in awhile.  (I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow...reluctantly, as I like my non-dealer mechanics much better, but they thought this was a computer issue and they don't have the Volvo software to identify/fix the problem.)  Thanks again!

Answer
Gale, maybe, but I doubt it. It's still a good idea to have all the latest firmware and software installed. I would do that, have them code the fob at the same time and see what develops. Be sure you put a new battery in it before you take it there. Let me know.
