Land Rover Repair: 91 Range Rover stalling problem, range rover v8, skilled service

Question
Hi,

I'm having a stalling problem with my 1991 Range Rover V8 3.9L. It will die when idling, for example at a stop light or when I'm warming the car up in the drive way.

I've had two different shops (one specializes in rovers) work on it to solve the problem... I've replaced the alternator, the ignition coil, pick-up coil, the ignition module rebuilt, and intake throttle body cleaned. They've checked the battery, fuel pump and fuel lines, apparently they're fine. If you have any ideas on how to solve this, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Answer
I think you need a shop that can actually find the problem, not just throw parts at it and guess.  If it acts up consistently, it can be diagnosed and fixed.  But the shop has to catch it in the act.

If the problem is not consistent, there is not much you can do. If it happens every day, and your shop can't find it, you need more skilled service people.

I should also add that really skilled LR service personnel are rare.
