Volvo Repair: Overdrive cable adjustment, carburetor, overdrive

I am having great difficulty finding the proper cable adjustment to allow the transmission to engage overdrive.  I did have it adjusted correctly once but fiddled with the cables trying to adjust the idle (which is too fast).  There are two cables attached to a wheel adjacent to the carburetor.  Please provide proper measurements for these two cables.  Thanks in advance for your support.

    Dave, somewhere there IS an official length published. Gradually loosen(lengthen it) until the o/drive kicks out when you want it to. IE: passing etc. If it doesn't kick out at all, try slowly turning it in (shorten it) until you reach satisfaction. Tryt one to two full turns each time. It's not that sensitive.
