Volvo Repair: 01 Volvo S80 climate controls, volvo vadis, volvo s80

Question
Hello, I recently purchased an '01 S80 with 120K miles and
everything seems to be working well with a couple of
exceptions.  One, the climate control light for the
driver's side seems to be burned out.  I check the fuse and
its good but at night I cannot tell what temp the driver's
side is set to.  Secondly, the driver's side vent (left
side of the steering wheel) is malfunctioning, air is
passing through but the switch to open/close the vent is
not working, regardless of where it is the vent is either
closed or barely open (i verified this by showing a
flashlight and fiddling with the switch).  Can I access the
vent without taking it to a garage?  Also how complicated
would it be to change the light in the dashboard?  Thanks,

Garrett

Answer
Garrett, to do the bulb isnt bad if that one is a serviable unit.  There are some that you cannot replace the bulb.  The vent situation is something that actually needs to be scanned by the dealer or Volvo shop that has the specialized Volvo VADIS computer system.  You can remove the cover to the control unit by either removing the knobs and acess the screws to remove the cover, the whole unit comes out, or you can use a small screwdriver to pry the side and it will pop out.  Roger
