Volvo Repair: Volvo Extended Warranties, volvo xc60, happy new year

Question
Can you recommend a legitimate, bumper-to-bumper, manufacturer-backed warranty for a 2006 Volvo XC60 for which the lease is expiring and I will purchase?

Thanks

Answer
Donald, no, I cannot recommend one. I think they are all ripoffs. They have a really tricky way of excluding whatever it is that breaks. In addition, they dictate to the repair facility what they will pay hourly (always lower than the prevailing rate) sometimes obtain their own parts and basically will not allow a shop to make an honest profit. Most ethical shops will not touch them. Only the desperate hacks will that do not have good enough technicians to do the job properly. They don't have good enough techs. because they pay so poorly and anyone worth his salt will not work there. Are these the guys you want working on your car?
If you insist, here is what to ask: Be sure you get this in writing! Can I take my car anywhere? Will you pay their hourly labor rate in full? Will you pay for new parts or only rebuilt and used? Will you allow the shop to obtain parts through their preferred vendor? Will you allow them to make an honest(their normal) profit on the parts? If you can get yes' to all these questions in writing, buy it.
My recommendation is: Take that $1500- $ 2000.00 and put it in an interest bearing account for a rainy day. HTH

Happy New Year!
