Volvo Repair: Intermittent no-crank volvo v70 2003, volvo v70, starter solenoid

Question
Intermittent no-crank  volvo v70.  It starts and drives fine when it works or it just has a relay click.  Any suggestions?  The battery has been replaced and takes a charge.

Answer
Harry, check all cable connections for tightness and cleanliness. Especially the ground cables. Check and tighten the starter solenoid cables with special attention to the "pick" wire. (The little one) Then measure voltage at the starter when trying to crank with the clicking going on. Below 9 volts, try again at the battery. Below 9 volts there, replace your battery with a good one. If both those voltages are good, check voltage at pick wire. Below 9 volts, trace backwards to find your problem. Lastly, replace starter/starter solenoid.

Happy New Year!
