Volvo Repair: Rear View Mirror Issue 2001 Volvo XC, volvo v70 xc, 2001 volvo v70

Question
QUESTION: I own a 2001 Volvo V70 XC and have noticed a growing "clear" spot on my rear view mirror. It has been two days and now the growing "clear" spot has encompassed 3/4 of the mirror and looks to some kind of condensation. How has this occurred and is there a fix to this issue? FYI - it looks as if the tint in the mirror is slowly melting away! Thank you in advance for your insight

ANSWER:   Alexis, it's probably too late to save the mirror. Replace it with a used one. Salvage yard?

Merry Christmas!

QUESTION: Mark, thank you for the rapid response. Too late to save the mirror? I'm assuming you know what the issue is/was? I called my local dealer who indicated that the replacement was 800.00! Also, that it requires reinstalling software since the mirror is the conduit that allows the remote control to work - does that make sense? Thank you in advance for elaborating on your response.

Answer
Alexis, replace the mirror with a used one and you may have to pay the dealer to reprogram it. The salvage yards typically do not know what that mirror is worth and sometimes, you can get them for $ 25.00. Just tell the dealer the remote quit working. Don't mention replacement. O'wise they may $ penalize you. Try www.car-part.com. HTH
