Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Breaking in engine/oil, air compressors, engine temp

Question
I just baught a Tecumseh 6.5 hp engine, im wondering, would it be better for me to use fully synthetic oil? and how should it be broken in? (The operators manual does not say) Im using the engine to build a offroad go cart and I want this engine to operate smoothly when its running hot.

Thanks alot,
Matt

Answer
 Hello Matt:

I Use Mobile or Penn Synthetic Oil in All My Engines. I use it in My Air Compressors and My Lifts Use Synthetic Hydraulic Oils. To Break the Engine In: 1- Run the Engine at Idle for a Period of 3 to 5 Minutes. Then Increase the Engine Rpm to 1/2 Throttle and Run for 5 Minutes. Now Run the RPMs to Full Throttle and Run for 5 Minutes. Then Return to Idle and Let Idle for 3 Minutes. Stop Engine, Drain the Oil. ***BE CAREFULL HOT OIL*** and Allow the Engine to Fully Cool. Refill with New Oil. If the Engine is Going to Hold together, You have Done All you Can to Prep the Cylinder, Piston, Connecting Rod and Other Internal Components for Operation. By Slowly Raising the Engine RPM, the Engine Temp is Slowly Raised and the Pores of the Metal are Slowly Allowing the Synthetic Oil to Seep In and Work to Build Up a Barrier of Protection as it is Designed to Do. You should be Able to Run this Engine as you Intend to. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Thanks.

 Good Luck
