Volvo Repair: 91 740 head light high beam, fuel pump relay, volvo repair

Question
QUESTION: The high beam will not stay on when I pull the light switch on the steering column.
I change the light switch on the dash and the switch on the steering column. But the high beam light still would not stay on.Is there a relay that I need to look for and or change, I fail inspection for it.

ANSWER:     Yes, headlight relay. Under hood in relay panel, top of left front fender. I'm sure that's what it is too. Sometimes pop em apart, clean thoroughly and use a light oil on the contact latches will restore them. I think they're kinda pricey in the after market??

QUESTION: Mark I look for it but did not see a panel or relay, I am sending you a picture of under my car hood please help me to find it.

ANSWER:      Great picture, thanks. It's not there. Is this a Regina/Rex system? Check the owner's manual for location of main relay panel.
Try pulling out the ashtray and lift the fuse cover. I think the relay panel is behind and below the fuses on this one.

QUESTION: I pull out the ashtray and found them but which one would be the headlight high beam relay.. I don't have a Manual..here is what I see

Answer
Emma, nice picture again. I cannot remember exact location, but lets eliminate some of the culprits. Right relay on right is for overdrive. White relay on left is main fuel pump relay.(remeber this one. Common no start no fuel failure item.)  The two/three small silver ones are fuel system related functions. I know they are NOT it. The round Red one in the back is the bulb monitor relay. (Just monitors bulb filaments to report an outage) Not really lighting related. So, that leaves us the center row. I don't remember the blue one. But the one right in front of it looks right. It should say "Hella" on it as a logo. Pull it out, straight up, and try your lights. If they don't come on high when you pull back the stick, you've found it. If not try the same procedure on the one in front of that and lastly, the blue one. Only pull them one at a time and then reinsert before trying the next one. Let me know and maybe I can remember for the next poor soul.

Merry Christmas!
