Volvo Repair: Check Engine Light, obd ii, emmissions

Question
I'm sure I'm not the first with this question, but has Volvo made any changes to its automobiles to minimize and/or get the ever recurring Check Engine light to stay off.  Has dependability improved?  I have a 98 s70 with 115000 miles.  Thanks,  Carmine

Answer
First of all, it's not Volvo's mandate. It's the federal government's to have the check engine lights. It's all about the emmissions and keeping the car non-polluting. It's called OBD II and the EPA regulates it. Manufacturers are forced to have it and make it work. Google it if you are more curious.
In general, Volvo's get more dependable every year/model.
