Volvo Repair: Fan Running After Engine Turned Off, coolant temp, c unit

Question
Hello:

We just purchased a 2001 Volve V70 Wagon and noticed a fan switches on after the engine is turned off.  I researched and found this is supposed to cool down the evaporator for the A/C unit... but sometimes it seems to run a really long time.  I also noticed it had trouble starting a couple of times, but there is a brand new battery.

Any help on these questions would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Stu, check the coolingfan relay. Most common. Otherwise have the coolant temp sensor for the fan tested. Not the CTS for engine management. The cooling fans have their own sensor. Memory is that it's in the radiator on these cars? Second most common.
