Volvo Repair: 1999 Volvo V70 Drivers Door wont open, 1999 volvo v70, volvo v70

Question
Hi Mark, I have a 1999 Volvo V70 petrol 2lt.(which I love very much)The drivers door closed one day and now for love nor money it won't open I've had to get in and out Dukes of Hazards style which isn't great in wet weather! :)
I've managed to take off the inside panel (without breaking it) myself and a friend were working on it for four hours yesterday with noyt even a budge coming from the door. We managed to gain access to the electric door lock everything seems to be working items move up and down when locking and unlocking. Took off the passenger panel to compare, there seems to be one final stage that the passenger door lock does but the drivers door won't it's one tiny little "click". All other doors are working fine.
I've tried WD40 in and all around the door lock, tried gently pushing the door open from the inside with myself braced against the passenger door with the wife and friend holding both handles open, tried prying the door open with wooden wedges, and recently had a suggestion of blow torching the door off!!! (I don't want to go down that road as you can imagine!) Can you help?
It's a European Car as I live in Ireland, I am going to try and get an AutoLock Smith around today but any suggestions would be great.

Answer
Kev, great detail, too funny for me but I'm sure not for you. Try throwing the latch manually. (Release the "rod" at the latch and trip it with a screwdriver.) The rod may have "stretched" to the point where it will not allow release?
I have NEVER seen a latch fail to the point it needs to be torched. Push in on the door when you are tripping the latch to remove pressure, not out. Unbolting it may give you better flexibility also?
