Volvo Repair: volvo tire replacement, uniroyal tiger paw, directional tires

Question
Roger,
My college student daughter has a Volvo S70.  Her dad put 2 new Fuzions on the front about a month ago.  Today one of her back tires - a Pirelli (sp?) blew out & separated - fortunately she wasn't going very fast & wasn't hurt.  According to AAA, she picked up a metal screw, the tire was low, & so it blew out.  So now she needs 2 more tires.  Here is what I have heard today at 2 different tire places:
-Volvo may need all 4 tires to be the same due to some manufacturer's warning - is this true?
-Out of about 75 tires, the new Fuzions she has are about 7th from the bottom of the list - low cost/low quality
-Both places suggested Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring HR 88 H(the size is 195/60 R15).  at a total price out of approx. $200 for 2 tires. Both said these were "between the middle & the best" in terms of quality.
-One place told me it wouldn't be good to mix the Uniroyals & the Fuzions because of rotating tires.
-So do we buy 2 more Fuzions?  Buy 4 new somethings?
I am primarily concerned with handling and safety for her as a relatively inexperienced driver.  We bought the Volvo used several years ago because of safety.
Thanks so much.

Answer
Gloria, My personal choice for our customers are the Cooper CS4's.  They are not directional tires and have a good treadwear rating.  I suggest a set of 4.  I dont like mixing tires either.  The fuzions have a completely different tread pattern than the uniroyals.  Uniroyals are basically junk. I have never liked them.  My suggestion is to buy 4 and keep the 2 fuzions as spares.  Roger
