Volvo Repair: Electrical Problems with my V70, window mechanisms, lighting circuit

Question
Hi Roger,

I own a 2000 v70 (non turbo). I am having to distinct electrical problems and I was just wondering if you can point me in the right direction.

Problem #1)

My headlights wont turn on when the car is started. Headlights might turn on after the car has warmed up, sometimes 30 minutes, 45 minutes after the car has been running, sometimes headlights wont turn on at all. This includes running lights and turn signals as well.

So far, I have replaced the headlight switch, checked all the fuses, removed all cable harnesess at the CEM (I think that  what its called, the central electonics module) to inspect connectors myt CEM connectrs. My next point I have considered is the grounding. Do you have any suggestions for this issue? And where is the central grounding, or a ground for my lighting circuit?

Problem # 2)

My rear driver side window wont go up (power windows). I have removed the door panel and removed the quick disconnect from the motor and tested voltage, when I command the window to go up or down (via the window switch) I can see my voltage at about +/- 12 Volts depending on switch poisition. So I know that power is reaching the motor. The next thing is how do I remove this motor?, I was having a tuff time trying to remove the plate where the motor is mounted, all the window mechanisms dont allow me to reach my wrenches up in to where the power window motor mounts on the plate.

Am I doing the right thing by trying to remove the power window motor, and is their an easy way to remove the whole power window assembly?

Thanks Roger.

Answer
Jorge problem 1 , turn the key back a little and see if the lights turn on.  If they do, replace the electrical portion of the ignition switch.  Problem 2.  Replace the master switch assembly on drivers door.  Common problem with these cars. I would try that first before messing around with motors.  If you still think there is good power,  Hit the motor with a hammer and see if the window moves.  Roger
