Volvo Repair: 2001 S80 non-turbo-Electrical, independent volvo, battery cables

Question
Hello, I had a problem with a message light stating "Alarm service required" and it gave an orange warning light.  I spoke with the service guy at the dealership and he said I could fix it myself, just disconnect the battery cables in proper order, touch the two cables together to release the static charge and then reconnect the battery.  I did it.  And yes the warning light is off, but my AC control panel has no power.  Also, the buttons below the AC panel, such as the rear headrest release and lock out feature for the trunk do not work either.  The only item that works is the cigarette lighter.  I checked the fuses and relays under the hood and in the door panel, as well as the trunk.  All are in order?????
Please help,

Answer
Kathleen, talk about some stupid advice.  He created a major mess and now you have to go there to have the controller reprogrammed.  Alarm system required is that.  In translation it means hey my siren is bad, please replace me.  What a moron.  I have never heard anyone say something so stupid like that.  I suggest a different dealer or Independent Volvo Shop.  Roger
