Volvo Repair: 850 T5 stalled!, fuel pump relay, fuel pumps

Question
I was traveling at about 20mph and the car stalled as if it was running out of gas. Plenty of fuel. I pulled over and about 30min later turned it over and it started for about 2 seconds then stalled again. From that point on, no starting. I have spark, the fuel injector relay is closing. I don't know if the fuel pump relay is closing though. Can't say I can hear the fuel pump charging but I don't know that I did before. This is a new car to me and I'm still learning about it. Is the FP relay a common problem? It wouldn't surprise me if the fuel filter is clogged, do you think this is likely?
Thanks
jim

Answer
Jim, Ah the ol clogged fuel filter theory.  I have NEVER seen a Volvo fuel filter get clogged.  It just doesnt happen.  Fuel pumps are usually the culprits  on these cars but it may be a cam sensor issue.  I have seen pump relays fail but not very often on the 850's.  Without doing a few tests and scanning the car, I would only be guessing.  I suggest a Volvo Shop for help.  Roger
