Volvo Repair: Ignition Switch, torx screws, electrical portion

Question
QUESTION: I have a problem starting my '91 940se with the key, when I use the remote start, it starts and when I step on the brake, it shuts off. I want to change the ignition switch, but I can't get the cover off. I need to know what tool is needed to remove the cover over the switch.

ANSWER: William, what cover? Its all one piece.  You just gently remove it from the back of the electrical portion of the ignition switch.  You can use a small screwdriver or just use your hand and wiggle it back and forth.  If this isnt what you are talking about, please explain more. Roger

QUESTION: OK, when I use the key, the car will turn but won't start. If I use the remote start, it will start but it won't stay on when I press the brakes. The ignition switch I have is opposite of the key, which is held by two screws.

ANSWER: William, Okay, just like I thought.  That isnt a cover, its a whole connector assembly.  just wiggle it off with your hand or use a small screwdriver in the corner to get it started.  You must of had the remote start installed because Volvo didnt have that as an option. Roger

QUESTION: I'm talking about the casing that key housing. the care has tilt steering and there is a lever that allow it to tilt. that is a black housing over the switch, which is behind that lever. this car has the same dash that the 960 has.

Answer
William, There is a 3mm screw that holds the lever in.  Remove that and the lever comes out.  There should be 3 25 torx screws that holds the bottom cover.  If this one has the top cover and ne screws are showing then you need a long 15mm torx to get to the screws from the bottom.  Im glad we got this straightened out.  Sorry.
