BMW: shift lever, model bmws, shift mechanism

Question
The shift lever Button (auto transmission) will not depress on my 1999 BMW (all-wheel drive) in cold weather. After running/warming up the engine (10 to 15 minutes) the button can then be depressed and it can then be shifted into any gear.

Please help.

Answer
Tony,
Not sure about this one... have never messed with the auto tranny shift mechanism on late model BMWs.  There should be a screw on the shift knob to remove it, you can do this and check for anything sticking.  I'm pretty sure it's in the knob its self.  if you get it off, and notice it's still hard to depress, get another one from a dealership.  if you get it off and notice the button is EASY to depress, then the the connection between the button and the transmission is at fault.
 Hope this helps,
 Josh
