Volvo Repair: Replacing Brake Pads, caliper piston, replacing brake pads

QUESTION: What are the tools needed to perform a brake pad replacement, both fromt and rear, on a 1989 Volvo 740 Turbo?

ANSWER: Greg, a 12 mm socket for the front calipers, a big channel lock pliers to push the pistons in and large screwdriver to pry the pads away.  For the rear a pin punch and a prybar to push the piston in.  Roger

QUESTION: Whats the process for replacing the rear brake pads?  Why a pin punch and a hammer?  I haven't actually started yet just trying to prepare myself.

Greg, because there are pins holding the clip and the pads in.  Use the pliers to spread the pads out, punch the pins and clip out, take pads out, clean the shims, Apply brake pastes, Use pry bar to push in caliper piston until flush.  Put pads in.  Seat them in and take for a spin.  Roger
