Volvo Repair: More Volvo Problems 1990 740GL, volvo problems, haynes manual

Question
QUESTION: Hi again Roger,

I couldn't reply to the last response because it said I replied to too many replies and I was diverted to ask a new question.

You said that the possible problem with the volvo now could be either the fuel relay or a sensor.

My son says he did get the car jumped by someone and it did crank over until the engine reached about 1 rpm and then it just shut back off.  The battery is now dead again.  I am looking 82-88 haynes manual even though my car is a 1990 and in looking at the specific relays located behind the fuses, there was not one for the fuel relay.  I believe I saw one that had to do with ignition though.

Any further advise (help) you can give so we can get this car moving and back home again would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for your time and trouble,

Karen

ANSWER: KAren, is the battery dead because you tried to crank and crank?  The fuel relay is behind the ashtray assembly.  To the left will be a white relay.  Thats the pump relay.  Roger

QUESTION: Roger,

At this point, the vehicle is not here at the house and my son is at work and leaves early in the morning by someone else picking him up and doesn't get home until after dark.  I told him he has to get the car back here.

As to your question, yes, I believe my son said that the battery died from continually trying to restart the car.

Are you saying that the 1990 740GL has that pump relay?  Like I said, I can only see what is in the 82-88 Haynes manual on the left side, the relays are (a) bulb failure warning sensor (far left rear and round, (e) Continuous injection system  (far left middle square and higher in height than the "a") and (j) Window widers/electric fan (small square left front closest to the fuses).  The 1990 small car manual is in the glove compartment.  I did see where the relays are located and from reading the haynes manual, it showed how to unclip the assembly to get to the relays.

Thank you,  Karen

Answer
Karen, some do and some dont depending on the fuel system that the car has.  If your has it, it will be the white one on the left but without performing tests, Im pretty much without any more suggestions unless you can tell me the basics when the car comes back to you.  Roger
