Volvo Repair: 99 V70 Base Wagon advice / concerns OBDII and aftermarket parts, oem sensors, oxygen sensors

Question
get a coffee, this one is long and pointless.
my 99 v70 base wagon is getting a p0130 bank1 sensor1 o2 sensor error but  drives like a dream and has no other issues. i think it's a bosch me7  motronic 168hp 5254S.
THANKS FOR TAKING MY QUESTION! i have 2 volvos and they are happy and  alive because of this website.
i replaced the front sensor and wiped the code but it comes back, but i  have a bit more power in the engine now. or it's just running rich  because of the incorrect readings.
otherwise it's more similar to a toyota in maintenance cost and  durability. mail-order parts from fcpgroton and advanceautoparts are  inexpensive for the non-awd and non-turbo models and i 'think' im staying  ahead of the gremlins.

however i did buy 2 cheap universal 4-wire oxygen sensors and spliced  them in carefully. ive kept the originals, and the car is running  terrific and smooth but the check engine light keeps coming on and  advance auto's odbii reader says p0130 specifically bank1 sensor1, rich  mixture, circuit error, missfire or fuel pressure.
(i replaced the rear o2 after being told it can be harmless and restore a  bit of fuel efficiency and power)

should i hunt down a problem somewhere else like an air leak or fuel  issue? or just get the real OEM sensors and be done with it? a tech a FCP  told me that the OBDII 99 volvos cannot use the universal sensor but my  car is running fine.... am i just asking for trouble down the road?

some more rambling background history 3months ago:
after a long winter drive (3+hrs) one ignition coil died, i got a Bosch  V09125601 replacement. i got home and autozoned it and they said 2 or  more (ack) coil packs were gone and 02 sensor was bad. so i started to  order ignition coils on ebay. i bought all factory original Volvo labeled  packs of 2 model numbers. for between $30-$60 each i got 1 more Volvo  (not bosch) 9125601 and 4 of 30713416 because i was told they are  identical. i hope. the mechanic told me they are interchangable.

also ive ordered and am going to replace the:
fuel filter, air filters, spark plugs (ngk in there now, ordered volvo  OEM), suspension and mounts, various vacuum hoses and T's.
these 1999 V70's are a dream to work on. no turbo or awd to clutter up  the system and fail prematurely. repairs are intuitive and parts are  easily accesible with a jack and common tools.
you are going to tell me to get all the universal aftermarket crap outta  there and get OEM volvo stuff right?
for this beauty it'd be worth it since i won't have to spend to repair  the AWD or Turbo systems.

Thanks! - Per

Answer
Per, those V70 should be using the denso sensors.  Those universal sensors pretty much suck.  As a second measure I would check for leaks at the intake manifold.  These cars are one of the better ones and have quirks but overall are a decent car.  Hope this helped some. No books next time.  I ran out of coffee reading this.  HA.  Roger
