Volvo Repair: 1995 Volvo 850 Turbo cooling fan and temp question, mild weather, volvo 850

Question
I recently bought this car with 85 thousand miles on it. I replaced the control arms and mounts and the timing belt and all is well, however I am nervous about the fan ALWAYS coming on even in very mild weather. The temp always reads a little above half way and has never gone above. I was sitting in traffic the other day and the temp did not move but stayed just above the half way mark. The a/c was on and it seemed fine, but I thought those fans only came on when running extra hot. Do these cars run hot? I live in Phoenix so I am awaiting the brutal 115 degree summer and don;t want it to ravish the car. Any advice on preventing overheating and the always running cooling fan?

Answer
Erik, put it this way, If the air is on, the fan is on, thats the way they are.  Especially the Turbo cars.  All 850's do it but the Turbos do run hot. If you want to do routine maintence on the car, replace the thermostat and temp sender on the housing.  Roger
