Volvo Repair: 2000 S80 door lock, actuator assembly, passenger doors

Question
When unlocking passenger doors, driver side rear door makes da-da-da-da-da rapid fire sound as if gears are worn and slipping.  The door still unlocks.  A friend said he had similar problem and dealer replaced door lock module.   Dealer told him module is sealed and ID need to be programmed to the car so it's not something that can be done by DIY.  Is it something I can try to fix myself?

Dan, I always wonder why people want to try these things themselves and have to pay more later when the car comes to me in pieces but anyway, If you are handy, this is a doable project.  I suggest taking the door panel off and study it then determine if you want to tackle it. Its the door lock actuator assembly that is the problem.   Dealer was blowing smoke up your friends you know what.  They wanted to do the job by telling him it needed a download.  Not true.  Roger
