Volvo Repair: timing belt replacement, s80 t6, volvo specialist

Question
My independent mechanic is on the tail end of installing a new timing belt on my Volvo, 2000, S80 T6 - and - the gear near the front of the car has a timing mark on it, but the rear large gear and smaller gear below do not!  He has been searching for the correct alingnment, but I'd sure hate to see some bent valves, etc.  He says he has a CD with the Volv info, and that the marks just are not where they say they are in that information, and he does not see others.  Is there any information I can relay to him quickly that will help him get it done, and also save my engine from potential damage?  Thank you.  we love our S80 for road trips especially but it has been interesting on the electronic moduels that needed to be rreplace!  Paul Rippel,  Idaho Falls, Idaho

Answer
Paul, If this guy is not a Volvo specialist I highly advise not let him finish the job.  The marks are there,  The marks line up with the top part up the timing cover.  Up at 12 oclock on both cams.  If he doesnt put this together properly the car will not run right, and the check engine light will come on.  The mark on the crank is hard to see, its on the back of the pulley and that has to be lined up with the small mark behind the crank  gear.  This is not an easy car to work on.  Volvo Dealers and Volvo specialists only.  I hope this helped.  Roger
