Volvo Repair: 92 740 GL Turbo Over Drive, owner states, solonoid

Looking 2 buy this Volvo, but the overdrive doesn't work, it has 112k miles on it for $900. What could be the problem? Is it costly or should I steer clear of this one? This owner states he has driven it for a while w/o the od.

Mike, for 900 bucks you cant go wrong either way.  It may be a simple relay or the O/D solonoid on the trans.  The worst case is an internal issue inside the trans but you can get a decent used trans for 400 bucks.  The simplest of issues would be the wire from the shifter down to the connector  has been cut.  Like I said, either way, that will be a decent car for 900 bucks.  Roger
