Volvo Repair: volvo s80 shift stick, volvo s80, shift assembly

Question
I appear to have broken/snapped my stick that shifts gears, i started the car put
my foot on the brakes and went to put the car into drive and it wouldn't
budge....so i pulled on it....and pulled and it gave and shifted down into drive,
but the light stayed in park.... so i'm not sure what happened...and now its
loose. and the stick can just be moved around freely....i don't know whats wrong
exactly, is there a simple way to fix it?

Alex, nope.  You probably broke the whole assembly.  Ive seen people do this before and it turns out to be the whole gear shift assembly that needs to be replaced.  Take to your Volvo Shop to see how much it will cost to repair.  Not cheap if I remember correctly.  Roger
