Volvo Repair: volvo repair, spark plug wires, pvc valve

Question
I;m working on a 1989 volvo wagon 740 gl for a friend of mine. The car has been sitting up for about one year in her front yard. It cranks but you have to hold the gas pedal to the floor to keep it crunk. She explained to me that her brother replaced the pvc valve and tuned it up for her. Is it possible that he could have gotten some of the spark plug wires crossed up or what? Any information would be helpful.

Answer
Anthony, its possible but since its been sitting, a lot of other issues may be happening also.  This can be anything from a fuel issue to an airmass meter or something else.  This is one that I would have to look at and run tests.  Very hard to ever begin where to have you start.  Roger
