Volvo Repair: 1996 Volvo 850 Wagon, volvo 850 wagon, volvo wagon

Question
My Volvo wagon had an oil leak that was noticed by a local repair center I use for brakes and tires, they perform other work as well. They said it was the oil pan that was leaking and i approved an expensive fix. after the repair was done my vehicle sat for 3-4 weeks while i was out of the country and upon my return, during a short road trip i was loosing a lot of oil. The Volvo dealer, where i purchased the vehicle, looked at the car and said it was the main engine seal and the pan seal rarely leaks. at 115,000 mile i figured that the rear seal was failing and the it appears, visually that it is leaking  from the pan, and someone who is not a certified vovlo mechanic might not diagnose the issue and try the wrong repair (or the easiest or cheapest way to address it) my feeling is they weren't diligent went for the obvious and weren't thorough. Volvo seems to agree and i am looking for other opinions before i spent 1200$ to repair what was most likely the REAL PROBLEM in the first place.

Looking for Help.

Answer
Oil pan leakage is relatively common. If the underside of the car was soaked with oil it should have been cleaned and thouroughly inspected to source the leak. You also should have been notified that other leaks may be present and the leak they fixed would not address all of your leak problems. You can't say the oil pan wasn't leaking, you can say they weren't thorough and they didn't properly inform you of all the possibilities that existed. Or it may be a communication problem, a good service writer knows these things and can better prepare you for upcoming needs and immediate repair necessities
