Volvo Repair: Volvo V70 AWD, volvo v70, smooth roads

Question
I recently purchased a Volvo v70 AWD cross country.  It is a 2000 model with
only 45000 miles on the clock.
So far it has had to go in for the dealer recall on the fuel system, and then I
was told the fuel pump was bad, as no fuel was getting to the front. Luckily I
took it to a reputable guy who replaced the relay[Which I could have done if I
could have figured out where to look.]
Two questions at this time. On a rough road, the ABS light and brake
indicator came on.  The car then would not respond when I pressed the gas
pedal.  I turned it off and restarted it and the lights went off and it seemed to
reset itself.  Since then, this has happened a couple of times , even on a
moderately smooth road.[this is Pittsburgh PA,  no smooth roads here].  I'm
now told I need to replace the ABS module.  Is this something I can do myself,
and should I get a rebuild....if so where do I get it done?
Q.2.   There is an  odor of hot oil coming from the engine. It appears that the
cam cover is leaking slightly.  At this mileage, should I have the timing belt
replaced, as the work on the cam cover gets into this area, and would have to
be done again if I had the belt replaced later.  I've been quoted $800 for the
whole job. This car seems to be getting too expensive, what with 15 MPG to
run it. What say you.  K.

Answer
The ABS control module is a high failure component and is easily replaced.Rebuilt units are available, if you buy it from the dealer at least you will get a warranty. If the timing belt hasn't been changed now is the time.Make sure the cam seals and oil pump seals are replaced at the timing belt change. Also the belt tensioner and water pump
