Volvo Repair: shift knob removal 940 1993, shift position, hi bob

Hi Bob, I want to replace the plastic/rubber piece that's at the bottom of the shifter (it has the shift position letters D,R,L etc.)How do I get it over the shift knob? Thanks.

Check with the dealer on availability of that. It may only come with a complete shifter assembly.If it is older design it is available seperately,just remove the ashtray and the metal clip directly under the ashtray,the center tray (two screws)and wiggle out the tray starting at the front.Lift up on the parking brake to give yourself room. The center tray is split in the front and will allow you to get that around the shifter.But I think thats the newer design and not available seperately.
