can you explain the steps to change the timing belt on a 2000 volvo s40? and what should the valve placement be at to set the marks correctly.

Solomon, there are marks on the crank pulley and cam gears.  Cam gears should align upwards with the marks on the top timing cover.  Crank will have a slot to line up with the crank pulley.  I suggest a volvo shop for this one.  One mistake and its all over. Roger
