Volvo Repair: 1994 Volvo 940 Turbo wagon check engine, volvo enthusiasts, 1994 volvo 940

Question
Hello.  I am considering purchasing the above mentioned Volvo.  There is a check engine light on.  The owner says he was told there was some kind of sensor under the parking brake, and he may have set off the light by pulling too hard on the parking brake.  I called a dealership and the employee said he had never heard of such a thing.  My main question is how to retrieve and read DTC's on this pre-OBD II model.  I am fairly competent in working on semi-simple projects.  I have had some trouble locating a repair manual at local stores for this vehicle.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Check the local library, if they don't have it most of them will source it for you and have it delivered. There is a small black box in the rear of the engine compartment drivers side. Put the probe in pos 2 and turn the ign on press and hold the button for three seconds and it will display a series of flashes such as 1-2-2 or 2-2-1 repeat the procedure until a fault code repeats itself.let me know
Oh yeah, there isn't a sensor for the parking brake that would trigger a code or light. Also try ipd.com they are a aftermarket organization of volvo enthusiasts selling accessories and such...they might have a manual
