Nissan Repair: 2001 Nissian Altima rpms jumping....., mass airflow sensor, rpms

Question
Hello.. I am having problems when sitting in idle somewhere, my car starts missing, the rpms are jumping between 0-1.  I had someone do a complete tune-up and then service code gave a intake air gasket problem, had that changed (7 hour job)the jumping stopped for about 3 weeks, now from time to time it is doing again....please help! any advice?

Answer
Patti,

Either they have a hose coming loose or they messes up the gasket upon installation.  Now, if it is only doing it at idle leads me to think if these things were done properly that the mass airflow sensor is probably defective.  Go back to the shop and explain that you are not blaiming them but the car is starting to do what it was doing before you spent the money on the seven hour job.  After they understand that it is doing the same thing let them know that you heard that the mass airflow sensor could be suspect and you would like it tested.  Have them give you a printout of what they find before you spend the money to replace it.
