Volvo Repair: 1990 Volvo 240, oil leaks, drive belts

Question
I purchased a 1990 240 Volvo in 1993 and it has been sitting for a few years because I purchased an SUV. I love this car and don't want to get rid of it and regret not taking better care of it (i.e. driving it occasionally). The battery is dead and I'm sure it needs a tune up, some minor exterior replacement (brake light shield) etc.  The interior can use some work also.  It has less than 100,000 miles.  My question is, in your opinion, do you think it's worth trying to get fixed?

Answer
Tough call without being able to inspect it.The initial investment required to revive the "patient" may be expensive.A thorough inspection should be done to prioritize needs. It will probably need tires, timing and drive belts, a full tune up,and brakes (calipers may have seized or brake pads have rusted in place)a full interior and exterior detail...But if the car is solid (floors not rusted through)it should be a reliable car.No matter how thorough of an inspection, things will probably pop up on you in the first six months of putting the car back into daily service...water pump, master cylinder, oil leaks. I love the old 240s, it should last a long time, and yours is just a baby. If you want to sell it email me direct robfro50@hotmail.com or I'd love to see before and after pics should you decide to revive
