My brother wants to purchase 1991 Volvo 740, mileage 170,000 for $1500. What should we look for.  The inside needs a little sewing up. No problem.

A cheap and good mechanic! Have it checked over by a pro that knows Volvos...before you buy it. That age and mileage can get expensive very quickly.Prioritize your necessities with the cars needs...Don't fix the Ac first if it needs tires, brakes and suspension work.
