Volvo Repair: 95 850 Turbo - lots of problems, electrial problem, dipstick tube

Question
Im not sure what to do with this car. I would like to see if it can be fixed but so far I cant find someone who knows what is causing the problem. It started with the car stalling while driving. It didnt matter how fast I was driving, on the road, highway, or even stopped, the car would stall. But, it would start right back up. Just park it and turn the key, no problem. (mechanic said they fixed this by changing the gas filter I think, said it was clogged).
I got an oil change and a week after all of the lights on the dash would flash at me, numerous times. Brought it back to the mechanic, they said my oil was gone because it was splashing out. They said it was coming out of the broken dipstick (top has been broken for over a year). So now if I try to drive it, the dash blinks at me the whole time and it STILL stalls sometimes. The best part is, now if I drive it for 15 min, it smells like something buring and I have smoke coming out of my fuse box.

Is there any hope here? Could this all be caused by some major electrial problem? Is it several small problems? Fixable? I really do not have the money for a new car. I dont even really have the money to fix this one? Any suggestions?

Answer
Definitely have the dipstick tube repaired and have the breather serviced. The area should be cleaned and the oil level kept up. As far as the lights on the dash flashing, the charging system should be checked. As well as the serpentine belt and tensioner. As for the stalling, the fuel pump and relay should be checked.Fault codes should be read and reset and see which ones come back.
