Volvo Repair: Volvo 240 dl 1990-Odometer, Gas Gauge, Electric Windows, Engine light, volvo 240 dl, fuel tank sending unit

Question
Hi,
I have a Volvo 240 dl 1990 wagon.
The odometer, gas gauge, electric window controls on the driver side are not working. I put all new fuses and that did not fix these problems. The driver side window is half inch open, can it be forced-closed manually? Only one window on the passenger side is occasionally working.
The engine light is meaningless & annoying only as no repair is needed; can it be shut off?
Thank you.

Answer
Vincent, The odometer is most likely the small gear inside the instrument cluster, The gas gauge may be 2 things, 1 is the actual fuel tank sending unit or the gauge itself.  The window switch needs replacing or cleaning and lastly if that light is on its not meaningless, there is obviously something wrong with one of the systems.  It may be a 02 sensor, it can be anything.  You have to read the codes.  Put the connector into pos 2.  Turn key on.  Hold button for 5-10 seconds.  Count the flashes and write them down.  Example: 2-3-1.  Now push button again for 5 seconds.  Read codes again.  Do this until the first code you read comes up.  Now hold button for 10 seconds.  Light should go off.  If it comes back on immediately after starting the car then there is a issue.  Do this with position #6 also.  Roger
