Volvo Repair: Volvo 850 R Oil cooler, volvo 850 r, oil hose

Question
Hi Roger, some advice please.. 1600 kms ago I had the radiator replaced in my 850 by a reputable volo service agent.  A couple of weeks ago the High pressure top oil cooler hose blew off and the motor was destroyed. The company refuses to accept any blame. The retainer clip holding on the oil hose appeared very loose and failed to obviously do its job and or was not put on properly.
In your professional opinion, do you think they should have put a new retaing clip on the hose? And do you think they should be accountable and replace my engine..?
Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.. Bob.

Answer
Bob, Personally when I replace a radiator on those cars and the clip is questionable, yes I will replace it.  a 2 dollar piece just cost you an engine.  Since they performed the work, it is in my professional opinion that they should be liable especially if the technician saw that being loose.  Unfortunately, the law would have to decide this.  Try talking to the service manager before any legal action takes place.  Roger
