Question
QUESTION: 1994 940 non turbo 8 valve lacks power, very hard to get car up to 65 on hyway but does get there but when you step on the gas the car just bogs down, changed fuel filer, plugs, new cap and rotor and main fuel pump under car?

ANSWER: Mike, sounds like the timing may be off.  Those werent the most powerful engines but should at least get you going fairly quickly.  It may also be a air mass meter issue.  I would check timing first, then we can go further.  Roger

QUESTION: Roger engine timing is right on the money, car starts fine and runs fine at idle but when you get out on the road and step on the gas car has no power, car has a difficult time getting up hills, car runs fine down hill. How do I check the air mass meter?  Thanks Mike
ANSWER: Mike, check to see if any fuel is coming out of the pressure regulator when you pull the vacuum line off.  To check the meter when the car is running will set off the check engine light but I can tell you how to reset that later.  Run car, unplug meter, let car surge, replug it in.  If car dies, meter is bad.  Roger

QUESTION: Roger, I checked the press. regulator it seems fine no evidence of gas on vacuum side and the car has plenty of vacuum, timing ok with timing light and does advance when throttle moved. When I unplug the mass air meter car runs rough but when plugged back in car runs fine at idle. Still no power at above 40 mph, when you step on the gas at higher speeds the car just bogs down?
Thanks,
Mike

Answer
Mike, There may be an issue inside the gas tank with the intank fuel pump.  I have seen the hose that feeds the main pump rot.  This causes the problem you are describing.  Other than this, I would have your Volvo shop check it for you because I have gone as far as I can go with you.  I would have to see the car in person and perform some of my ownd tests.  Roger
