Question
QUESTION: 145,000k mi's-arrow light & check engine lites on-arrow flashing-manual says gear box problem-is it safe to take on a 150 mi roundtrip prior to getting to mechanic following day? Is there anything I can easily do to correct problem &/or have car safe to drive on trip? Advice needed ASAP regarding further driving in this condition. THanks so much.
ANSWER: Bill, it nees the PNP switch on the trans and mode selector switch.  Common issue.  It should be okay but Im not going to tell you to drive it that way.  No you cant correct the problem without replacing the switch.  Roger

QUESTION: Roger,
Thanks again for the reply. FYI, the flashing "arrow" and flashing S-W-E indicators continued on my Sunday AM trip (1 1/2 hours). However, no lights on the return trip or since? Taking it to shop in a few days, but any thoughts of problem? On another topic, for too many years I can't seem to find a mechanic that can solve my warning light problem. The "bulb", "check engine", and sometimes "service" lights come on usually a few days after being serviced & reset. When I go back to garage, they tell me all bulbs, etc are ok, reset the lights, and then in less than a week the go on again. Besides being irritating, I also never know when it's real or not (boy who cried wolf). Have you ever seen this? Any suggestions? You would think the darn warning lights would burn out. Thanks so much.

Answer
Bill, I told you that the pnp and mode selector will be the problem when they scan the car.  Sometimes it does go away for a few days but it will come back.  Service light need to be reset with a tool.  Bulb light are temperamental.  A good tech would replace any suspicious bulbs and be done with it.  I see it every day.
