Volvo Repair: 2004 S60 2.5T Fuel pressure sensor, volvo mechanics, volvo dealer

Question
I have learned to live with what I refer to as "carpolepsy" but am afraid I need to replace it soon before it causes other damage.

I have a 2004 S60 2.5T with apx 100k miles on it. I had the stuttering problem happen about 2k miles ago and have just dealt with it. It happens almost always at highway speeds and sometimes on surface streets. The check engine light is mostly on, but sometimes not. Regardless if it is on, I will almost always experience the stutter. When it happens on the highway, it seems to stall for about 5 seconds. I cant use the gas while it is stalled. Then all of a sudden it just comes back to life.

I went to the dealer (Westlake Village, CA) and they charged me $115 just to tell me what the code was and that I needed a new fuel pressure sensor. They told me it would be an additional $400 to get it fixed but they would kindly apply the $115 towards it. After looking the part up online, I can pick one up for $85 but not sure if it is easy to replace myself.

Also after calling around to a few Volvo mechanics, I was getting price quotes in the $250 range (parts and labor). Not sure why the dealer was so much. What is appropriate for this?

Anyone have information on how to replace this or is it difficult?

One last note, after Googling this problem, I also came across what appeared to be information on a recall for this part on 2000-2003 models. It seems to me given the problem is still out there, why is the 2004 excluded? Oh well..

Answer
it is possible that you have bad fuel pressure sensor   the part is expensive   use only Volvo original parts from Volvo dealer  don't buy any aftermaket sensor  they will fail fast  also the labor is around that price range here in Chicago to install $350-$450 fuel pressure sensor .why Volvo dealer is expensive  is for one reason same as you go to regular doctor he charges you cheaper and you go to specialist who knows more  you pay more  you know the old saying  you get what you pay .on other question   why 2004 is excluded from recall is because they are not using same part like on 2000-2003 models
