Volvo Repair: 1984 Volvo 244 GL, neutral safety switch, volvo 244

Question
I have a 1984 Volvo 244 GL that refuses to stay started, i press the clutch turn the key and it starts and runs for about 2 seconds and turns off, the same thing happens when i press the accelerator (gas), I've tried almost everything, and I've made sure that the spark plugs, wires, and distributor are all working fine the only thing that i can suspect is a bad neutral safety switch but I'm not sure, please help.

Answer
Terrell, unplug the silver airmass meter going into the air filter box.  see if car runs.  If car runs and surges, plug it back in.  If it stalls then the meter is bad. Also clean the throtle body.  Be prepared to pay $$$$ for a new meter.  They only made those meters for 83-84 cars.  Its a manual trans so why would you suspect a neutral safety switch?  Roger
