Volvo Repair: Transmission shuddere, torque converter, transmission model

Hi Roger,
I have an '89 740 GL Sedan. It's the single OHC (B230 engine) with an automatic trany (OD switch on the Gear shifter). It had been making a thump like noise every time I came to a stop. Well now it totally shudders when I come to a stop. My thoughts are that it's the torque converter. What do you think? Also, how can I find out what specific transmission model I have?

Joshua, I would check the U-joints first before condeming the Torque converter.  I've been doing this for many years and I have never seen a AW trans go bad because of a torque converter.  It may also be a bad trans mount.  Have it checked out.  Roger
