Volvo Repair: Volvo S60 Brakes, volvo s60, shift lock

Question
Dear Roger,

I recently replaced the front brake pads and rotor's in my wife's base model
2001 S60.  Repairs  went smoothly enough and the brakes "feel" great after
break-in.  Very peculiar side effect, though.  When the car is in park and the
ignition is on, one can hear an audible "click" coming from the automatic gear
shifter when the brakes are depressed.  It is only when the car is in park...one
can "feel" the click when you put a hand on the shifter. Pressing the brakes
multiple times yields additional clicks. I suspect it is something to do with a
cable or sensor I should have disconnected or perhaps dislocated during the
process...any advice you can give me would be much appreciated!

Sincerely,

Richard

Answer
Richard, that is actually normal.  Its the shift lock release solonoid making that noise.  You never hear it because you start the car, etc.  With it not running and just the key on, you can hear it.  Dont be alarmed about it.  Its a normal function.  Roger
